Live Crassula Ovata Gollum | Gollum Jade | Hobbit Jade

$400.00

If you are looking to add something special to your collection, this live Crassula ovata 'Gollum' is a great choice. Several thick, aged trunks rise from a single root base and branch into a dense canopy of tubular, finger-like leaves with red-tipped ends, giving it the look of a miniature forest. Whether you are deep into collecting bonsai or want a striking, easy-going centerpiece for your desk or windowsill, this Gollum Jade does not disappoint. You receive the exact tree photographed, and every Hobbit Jade we sell is prepared carefully by hand so it arrives looking fresh and ready to grow.

Product Includes:

  • 1x Multi-trunk bonsai tree, the exact specimen shown in the photos (approximately 8 to 10 inches tall as photographed). Shipped bare-root to protect the roots and trunks in transit.

  • 1x Custom Unboxing, Planting, and Care Guide.

(Note: The training pot shown in the photos, soil, and planting medium are not included.)

Why Does My Tree Arrive Bare-Root?

Shipping without soil keeps the box lighter, prevents loose soil from shifting and bruising the trunks, and lets the roots stay dry and healthy during the trip. This succulent stores water in its trunks and leaves, so a few days without soil is completely normal and safe.

Do NOT Water Right After Potting!

Any small roots that were bumped during shipping need a few days to callus over. Watering a freshly potted tree too soon is the most common cause of root rot. Wait about one week after planting before the first watering.

Unboxing, Planting & Care Instructions

  • Gentle Unboxing: Open your package right away and set the tree in a shaded, well-ventilated spot for 24 hours to acclimate.

  • Planting: Use a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix in a pot with a drainage hole. An unglazed or terracotta bonsai pot is ideal. Set the tree with its best side facing forward and keep the surface roots slightly exposed.

  • Light: Bright light is key. Indoors, use your sunniest window or a grow light for 12 to 14 hours a day. Outdoors, give it morning sun with light afternoon shade, and introduce stronger sun gradually. More sun brings out the red tips on the leaves.

  • Watering: Use the soak-and-dry method. Water thoroughly until it drains, then wait until the soil is completely dry before watering again. Water less in winter.

  • Pruning: This tree responds well to pruning in spring and summer, which keeps the canopy compact and full.

Botanical Classification & Synonyms:

For the collectors who like the exact taxonomy, this specimen is Crassula ovata 'Gollum', a cultivar of the Jade Plant in the Crassulaceae family. Older references list the species as Crassula argentea or Crassula portulacea, and you may also see it called Gollum Jade, Hobbit Jade, Finger Jade, Trumpet Jade, Shrek's Ears, ET's Fingers, or Money Plant.

(Note for search indexing: This collector's item is sometimes searched for or misspelled online as Golum jade, Crasula ovata, Crassula ovatta, or Gollum jade bonzai.)

Quick Facts:

  • Hardiness Zone: 10-11 (Best kept above 40°F / 4.4°C; protect from frost).

  • Bloom Time: Late fall to winter on mature, sun-grown plants (Produces small white to pale pink star-shaped flowers).

  • Toxicity: Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten. Keep out of reach of pets.
